Mercury Capsule by Horikawa

Horikawa Friendship 7 Mercury Space Capsule This 1962 toy by Japanese firm Horikawa is usually just referred to as Space Capsule or Horikawa Mercury Capsule; it was appx. 10 inches long and composed of tin litho, with plastic parts on front and back.

This toy sparks from its tail, and the astronaut inside revolves, as it moves along the floor. The astronaut is also tin litho. There are simulated lights and dials on the control panel in front of the astronaut.

This toy is marked 'Friendship 7' on one side, which was the name of John Glenn's space capsule.

This vintage space toy is in demand from collectors, but is not too difficult to find.
