Ken doll

Ken doll Mattel's Ken doll was introduced in 1961 as Barbie's boyfriend.

This doll was 12" tall (1/2" taller than Barbie) and had flocked hair, which tended to flake off easily. This would soon be replaced by molded hair the next year. Ken came wearing red swimming trunks (with a white stripe down the side) and sandals, and with a yellow towel and a wire stand. The second-version Ken also came wearing a red-and-white striped jacket.

Ken was available in blonde, light brown, or black hair.

A bendable-leg Ken was introduced in 1965, wearing a blue jacket.

Ken's early-teenager youthful looks would be changed starting in 1969, when a more mature-looking Ken with a buffer body was introduced.
