Haunted House game

Haunted House game by Ideal

The Haunted House Game was released by Ideal in 1963. It came in an 8"x19"x22" box with a cutaway view that revealed a four-story, 9-room plastic house.

The object of the game was for players to make their way through the old haunted mansion, get the treasure, and then get back out again despite a number of weird obstacles including trap doors, spooks, etc.

The earliest version of the game included a spinner designed like an owl, which hooted when the lever beside it was pulled down (a mechanically-produced sound effect that required no batteries). Later versions incorporated a (much cheaper) cardboard cutout owl, or dispensed with the owl all together.

The Haunted House Game differs from other board games in that its board is vertical.
