Mission: Impossible was an adventure TV series which chronicled the missions of a team of secret American government agents
known as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The leader of the team was Jim Phelps, played by Peter Graves (except in the first
season, during which the leader was Dan Briggs, played by Steven Hill). An enduring trademark of the series had Briggs/Phelps
receiving his mission instructions on a reel-to-reel tap recorder, each message of which would end with the line, 'This message will
self-destruct in five seconds, at which time the tape would burn up. The iconic theme music was composed by Lalo Schifrin. The series
aired on CBS from September 1966 to March 1973. Other prominent stars included Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, and Leonard Nimoy.
