The kit came with the basic spaceship section molded in silver plastic, with the ground base in brown plastic. Three small figures (man, boy, woman) were included. The ship came with landing struts which could be lowered for landing or raised for flying. The kit was released between 1976 and 1977.
This kit is actually a modified reissue of an earlier kit, 'UFO of The Invaders' which was released between 1968 and 1971. That kit had included four figures, as well as an optional clear plastic dome. Also, the half-globes on the bottom of the craft were molded in red for the later model. In addition, the three figures in the Flying Saucer kit came from yet another earlier Aurora release, the Dick Tracy Space Coupe, released at the same time as the UFO kit.
One factor that helped the success of this kit was a resurgence in the belief in real flying saucers and Unidentified Flying Objects. This fad had surged for a time in the late 70's, as well as the mid-1960's (when the original UFO kit was sold) and in the two decades previous.
